Background and experience
Introduced to Yoga by my Mother at a young age, I soon developed a love of Yoga that has continued throughout my life. After having my two son's, I was lucky enough to be able to train for my Teaching Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga and achieved this in January 2007.
I began teaching in 2004 with the local school authority and Leisure Centre running an adult class for each. I now run these classes privately, with many of the original students still attending. Details of these classes can be found in my class schedule a link to which is on my home page. I have also run courses for various groups including a 50+ group and Toddler Yoga in Dartmouth, Special needs and several schools groups in Ivybridge (ranging in age from 4 to 17) including lunch time clubs. I have also lead sessions for a local Pre-School in Ivybridge.
During previous years I have been privileged enough to be able to teach at King Edward VI Community College in Totnes, teaching Year 10 and 11 Yoga as part of their PE curriculum. I also ran Stress Workshops for them as part of their Physical Health and Social Education lessons all of which have been very successful.
More recently, I have been developing my skills and have added Thai Yoga Massage to my knowledge base. I was drawn to this massage after experiencing it at a Yoga Show in Manchester. One taste and I was hooked!
I felt that it complemented my Yoga teaching beautifully, allowing me a deeper knowledge that can be applied as adjustments within my Yoga classes. I was also searching for something that could help my students who had been struck by progressive illnesses such as M.E. and M.S who found that they could no longer cope with a normal class of Yoga. I could see that this massage, with it's applied stretches, could be the perfect way for them to get their Yoga 'fix' without expending the effort required for personal practice. This has allowed them to maintain their flexibility, relax and refresh without the exhaustion and/or frustration that can be experienced. I have seen wonderful results with these people and hope to continue to help them maintain their health into the future.
For the able bodied, it is a great way to stretch and release. It is also invaluable if you wish to improve flexibility as having the stretches applied to you, allows you to release more deeply into the stretch as opposed to doing them on your own. Having said that, you don't need to be flexible to enjoy this massage. All stretches are tailored to the individual and can be very gentle or very deep according to your personal needs. Current health and objectives are also taken into account to provide you with the perfect massage just for you.
